This publication provides information about laws found in Alberta’s School Act that set out the conditions under which a child can be suspended or expelled from school. In doing so, it discusses the rights and responsibilities of parents and students throughout the process, including mandatory school attendance of children 16 years-of-age and under. It also provides information about how parents can be involved in the process and advocate for their child including speaking with the principal and School Board about the suspension or expulsion.
